Making Friends in College
Here are some things to think about when you fall upon the deep end of the new friend pool.
Take some time. The first several weeks of your first year are not a contest to see who may make the best new friends first. You should be open to many of new people and much of new social situations. Also, keep in mind that confidence between friends is something necessary to be earned—it does not happen overnight.
Consolidate a strong relationship with your roommates. Even though their manners, mannerisms, personality and are completely different from yours, it is the one person whom you most require to be compatible with. A good college roommate may not be a good friend—and vice-versa.
You should not over-commit to the social part. Overextending yourself and time is the guarantee for short-term suffer exhaustion. You do not need to say yes to each invite. Save time for you. Be selective with the campus activities—locate things that you prefer doing, and you will originally make college friends who share your personal interests.
Moment friendship seems like love at first sight: more fancy than reality. Even though someone looks to be the ideal new best friend, be sure to hold your options open.
